Story

Chapter 1
Aiden the "Firecracker" has always taken on life's challenges with boundless enthusiasm, whether in the dangerous world of the Arena or more dangerous world of Fire Crystal mining. The secret to his success? Not the Fire Crystal-powered mechanical arm—although that helps—but a willingness to brave any obstacle. Gone are the days when Aiden needed to mine Fire Crystals to survive. Aiden has already made the transition to potential arena champion as part of a new generation of contenders eager to unseat Hector "The King". Hector has even come close to losing his crown against Aiden in several matches of pure skill and fighting spirit—their battles are always sold out as the hottest attraction on the Tundra. For it is in the clash of steel, the lighting of flames with Aiden's iron fist that the cheering onlookers truly find refuge from the bitter cold.
Chapter 2
"I'm sending a message to Hector with this iron fist: this arena has a new champion!" "This pipsqueak calls himself the 'Firecracker'?! The only firecrackers I know are the ones I blow up, haha!" Hector and Aiden have made a game of playing up their rivalry in front of fans with their pre-match insults. But if you think this would make them enemies—as most assume—you would be wrong. The two might even be called fairly good friends outside the arena spotlight. After all, it was Hector who extended a helping hand Aiden's way after his tragic accident and provided his first big break. Hector and Aiden may be friends in private, but that doesn't mean they hold back from defeating each other in the arena. Even Hector has admitted, "The kid's got the skills to put me into early retirement one day. It's just a matter of time."
Chapter 3
Aiden grew up enjoying arena matches and was known among friends as a diehard fan of Hector. As an adult, Aiden got a job as a miner working the dangerous Fire Crystal shift—which gave him plenty of downtime to practice his own arena fighting skills. Aiden began participating in arena youth games in the hope he might be able to play competitively one day. But all those dreams seemed to fall apart when tragedy struck. Fire Crystal mines are safeguarded by delicate machinery used to keep the dangerous energies emanating from within to a minimum. For some reason a key safety controller suddenly failed during Aiden's shift and the crew chief gave the order to evacuate. This particular mine was located right next to a small city. Aiden knew that the worst-case scenario would see many townsfolk die when the mine exploded. Ignoring the order to evacuate, Aiden dove back into the heart of the mine and with quick thinking fixed the safety controller well enough to initiate an orderly shutdown. Unfortunately this also exposed Aiden to dangerous levels of unstable Fire Crystal energy at the moment he had zero protection. He blacked out, fully expecting these to be his last moments on earth...
Chapter 4
"They found him with an arm that was already crystallized beyond repair," Dr. Philly recounts the massive effort that went into saving Aiden's life, "The exposure should have killed or driven him insane. Maybe it was the tolerance he'd built up or an incredibly strong will to survive that let him leave there alive." Aiden's heroic actions became the talk of the city, and Hector himself paid a personal visit to his "number one fan". Hector also helped to organize an effort to take care of Aiden's short-term needs and said that once Aiden was back on his feet the offer was always open to come verse him in the arena any time. Even Logan from the Dawn Alliance got involved, customizing a mechanical arm for Aiden's deformed limb. The bionic arm accomplished two purposes: preventing the crystallization process from spreading to the rest of Aiden's body while also allowing him the use of his arm again but powered by a virtually limitless supply of his own crystalline energy. The bionic arm proved the tipping point in Aiden's recovery. Aiden found himself back on his feet and accepting Hector's invitation of a friendly match less than six months after his tragic accident. When Aiden strode into the arena then it was as a man reborn, full of hope, and with a fancy new nickname: "The Firecracker".

Story

Chapter 1
Bertha is a lady of contradictions. She could be described equally as a doctor with an appreciation for the importance of killing, or a killer with a strong interest in helping the sick and needy. For the sick, infirm, and injured, Bertha is a brave and confident medical professional who spares no effort in speeding up the recovery of those under her care. For those that Bertha deems insufficiently appreciative of others, or worse, plagues upon humanity, she takes on the role of eraser of evil from the human experience. In keeping with the medical theme of Bertha's work, she has even chosen a strange type of weapon modeled after an enormous syringe, which symbolizes her philosophy that "the best medicine is sometimes the one that kills the patient."
Chapter 2
Bertha's evolution to punisher of the wayward began with an idyllic childhood in a wealthy city-state. Known as a hub of the most advanced medicine anywhere on the Tundra, Bertha was proud to walk in the footsteps of those around her. She too swore an oath to do no harm when helping others. After all, she thought, "Isn't the Tundra cold enough as it is? Only the hopeful spark of humanity out there in the bitter cold can give purpose to our lives."
Chapter 3
Years of training gave Bertha the skills to be considered one of the top nurses in her city. A chance encounter here provided Bertha with another view of the potential side-effects of the nurse's creed and the consequences of neutrality. A high-ranking general presented Bertha's to ward with severe injuries. Bertha and many high-profile doctors did their best to nurse the lady-commander back to health. The sense of achievement was short-lived. Shortly after the general was discharged, a steady stream of bandit attacks began to hit neighboring cities. These attacks only increased in viciousness until finally even Bertha's city saw a touch of the desolation and fire spreading elsewhere. Only when a significant bounty was posted for the bandit leader's arrest did Bertha finally realize their enemy was in fact the so-called "general" whose life they had saved that day in the operating theater: Queen of Violence, Zenobia.
Chapter 4
"Do no harm" had made Bertha and her team accomplices to the deaths of thousands. As Zenobia continued her reign of terror, Bertha was forced to confront the cost of wielding only a scalpel of healing rather than of death. Her soul-searching ended when she realized that just as she might cut a disease out of a sick patient, she must also help humanity by cleansing evil from the Tundra. Bertha had found new purpose in life: cleansing the world of the more subtle disease of lawbreakers, bandits, and all others who practice the poison of selfishness. Queen Zenobia would fall one day, but in the meantime all evildoers would be fair game for her needle of justice. As she herself says: "Death is also a cure for disease."

Story

Chapter 1
Ever since she was young, Eleanor had always wanted to make a name for herself as the mastermind detective of Oestermore—pursuer of criminal evildoers! Upholder of truth and justice in her fair city! Unfortunately, none of those compliments could be applied to her until much more recently. It is true that Eleanor pursued a part-time career as a private detective-for-hire in Oestermore for many years, where she'd hoped to make a real difference to her city. The reality was that demand for private eyes in Oestermore was low. The place was just too peaceful. Requests in those early days were mostly of the "runaway cat stuck up a tree" variety. What was an aspiring private eye to do in peaceful Oestermore? Even Eleanor's talented young robo-dog "Chieftain" virtually never had the chance to practice chasing down a stray cat, let alone robber. But just like that, out of nowhere, everything changed—for her and for Oestermore, forever.
Chapter 2
Cities like Oestermore are breeding grounds for myths and legends, myths that never much concerned Eleanor who always felt herself far too sensible for such nonsense. This changed however when an invite came to investigate one such urban legend of an "underground monster" that "lived in the sewers of Ostemore". This invite was accompanied by a hefty wad of cash. Eleanor suppressed the urge to refuse. After all, how could she satisfy a client looking for supernatural horrors? But she needed money and the money was good. "I guess proving an urban legend is false is also a kind of detective work... especially if someone thinks it's valuable enough to feed me." Investigating an urban legend of a massive sewer monster demanded expert advice. Eleanor roped in Gisela the artisan for a small consulting fee. The latter already seemed to know quite a lot about various myths and legends—everything it seemed except "Jumping Jack" sightings about which she seemed completely ignorant. Not that this mattered. Other legends could wait.
Chapter 3
The dynamic "Sewer Ops" duo began the long and difficult task of getting underneath the city and raking up whatever muck they could find. But the urban legend was also evolving. What had started as a neighborhood in uproar over strange nightly noises soon grew into reports of missing persons often near sewer entrances! Interest was developing in the case, especially from the neighborhood where residents were going missing. As the case heated up, Eleanor, Gisela and "Chieftain" began the long task of mapping the labyrinth network of ancient sewers underneath Ostermore. Eleanor wasn't sure what she expected down there in all that dark and damp. As she bid farewell to Gisela who went down another side tunnel, Eleanor turned around and suddenly found herself face to face with a rifle muzzle pointed at her eyes. At that distance the man couldn't miss...
Chapter 4
"ARGH!" The man cried out as "Chieftain" threw its jaws against the arm holding the rifle. It was the only split second Eleanor needed to unleash her long-practiced martial arts head-kick. Safely tied up, the man refused to divulge who he was or what he was doing until Gisela revealed a vibrating "Teeth Remover" invention for otherwise inoperable root canals. "You can tell us who you are or you can be my first test subject!" she cried. "OK! I'll talk, I'll talk!" came the man's desperate plea. The mystery was fairly straightforward. After Phaethon had been expelled from Oestermore all those years ago, they had continued to cherish the hope of one day reclaiming the bastion of technology. However, the city's defenses had been so enhanced in the intervening years that a direct attack was no longer possible. Instead underground was the best way to invade—attacking Oestermore from its roots, as it were. Once divulged, the rest of Phaethon's puzzle fell into place. The giant "sewer monster" was in fact a large digging machine. The disappearances were actually kidnappings of those unlucky enough to cross Phaethon's path, pressed into the service of their massive tunneling project. Once Eleanor and Gisela realized the truth they also realized there was no time to send a message back to Oestermore's military. Their one and only chance to shut down this secret invasion was now before Phaethon could take countermeasures! Thus Eleanor and Gisela cemented their reputations as heroes by venturing deeper underground into Phaethon's base. While Eleanor distracted the guards with a combination of surprises, bullets, and martial arts, Gisela took control of the giant digger. As the machine roared to live within the confines of Pheathon's tunnel base, confused shouts quickly turned to terror as the digger began bulldozing Phaethon's own facilities. The soldiers fled into the darkness of the tunnels from whence they came and the kidnapped villagers were rescued. Eleanor and Gisela's actions that day went down in Oestermore history. Both were honored with a splendid awards ceremony in front of the city. Naturally this breathed significant life into Eleanor's failing detective business. Fresh off their famous victory, the two have branched out into other myths, legends, and potential evil activities in Ostermore. "Gisela has been wonderful to work with. We just can't accept any commissions in relation to Jumping Jack for some reason. So... don't ask."
