Story

Chapter 1
Seigel is the strongest of the Night's Guard by far. The roaming "Shield of Hell" is also far more tenacious than any other member of the Guard, able to endure battle for days in Hell's dark mist. Seigel is a shield both literally and physically. He stands between fellow soldiers and the horrors beyond. Seigel can do all these things because he is the man who returned from the land of crystal death. No signs of insanity or the rage of the Blood Moon show themselves in him even if his body is slightly deformed. If Seigel still suffers anything from his time behind the veil of Hell it is only the loss of his memories. If memories "make the man", then Seigel is both lucky and cursed. Whatever pain there was has been left behind. For he is a blank sheet now, free to engage in what gives him meaning: fighting alongside his brothers-in-arms!
Chapter 2
Viveca stumbled across Seigel on a patrol into the heartland of Hell, still infested by Blood Moon Plague sufferers. Overconfident in their arms, Viveca allowed her men to be cornered by a sudden ambush. Empty city streets were suddenly filled by violent, twisted beings. It is hard to say if Viveca would have survived without help. Seigel suddenly burst through the encirclement, cutting a path with a viciousness Viveca used to escape. "It was like watching a golem lay in to a whirlwind of red claws as Seigel threw twisted limbs onto the scrapheap!" Seigel's exploits became more than a rescue by a mortal man in their retelling. Once Viveca and her men reached a safe distance they turned to help Seigel, who was covered with scars that should have laid him six feet under. Not only did Seigel recover quickly but showed no signs himself of being infected. When a shocked Viveca asked how he had traveled so far into infected territory, he said he had been living there for months... perhaps years.
Chapter 3
Seigel was given a guard of honor back to the Night's Guard headquarters where Philly conducted a thorough physical examination—from a safe distance. She found Seigel had miraculously escaped unscathed from Blood Moon infection. Or at least that was the report Philly revealed to the Night's Guard... The Guard were happy to induct a survivor of inhuman strength into their ranks and crowned him with an honorific previously given to one of their fallen comrades. Seigel's great fighting strength was then enhanced by a long spear and coat of spike armor with which he could stand at the vanguard. The reservations of Seigel's brothers-in-arms were quickly dispelled by his protective valor. With each fellow Guardsman's life saved, Seigel built trust among the troops. He would surely be a captain now were it not for his apparent lack of humor and inability to understand the finer cues of human interaction.
Chapter 4
Philly and Viveca have not been entirely forthcoming about Seigel's true nature. Philly's examination did not reveal Seigel escaped the Blood Moon Plague, but the opposite: he showed every sign of infection in his blood serum. In fact, Seigel was much closer to an infected than an ordinary human being at a microscopic level. Yet somehow he had managed to retain his own humanity, now boosted by inhuman strength. Philly has conjectured that in many ways Seigel could be described as another life form, not fully human, nor infected. Only time will tell if it can be called "superior". Far more interesting to Viveca are his recollections of Hell. "I always knew there was a presence out there in the mist... calling to me. Trying to establish contact," Seigel remarked in interviews kept confidential from others. "It was a person and not a person—perhaps many people. It was trying to show me how it saw the world. I knew if I let myself see the world through its eyes, it would be more wonderful and stranger than I could imagine..." Seigel described feeling hate for the Entity by instinct. His heart rose up to bite its welcoming hand. Then the Entity's voice grew more distant, especially after joining the Night's Guard. Only time can tell whether Viveca can use Seigel's experiences to gain a better understanding of their enemy.

Story

Chapter 1
Ursar's ancestors made a choice to forge a new life in the underground places of the world. Wisely or not, they believed in a source of light and healing untouched by wars above ground. There they carved out their own unique Windbreaker civilization. As one of the foremost warriors of the modern-day Windbreakers, Ursar has been brought up in the ways of battle. His courage, agility, and accuracy are unquestioned. Ursar also displays great promise as a future chieftain of the tribe, a natural leader with an encouraging word for any situation and tactical skill. Great power, responsibility, and the blessings of the ancestors will reside with him soon.
Chapter 2
Being a future chief of the Windbreaker tribe is as much a cultural career as a political and military one. This is why it is good that Ursar is very skilled in traditional Windbreaker flutes and the hand-drums, well-versed in Windbreaker dances, classical and ritual. He must also take on the role of a master storyteller to pass on the legends of his people, all the way back to the birth of the Windbreaker tribe and the creation of the world in their mythology. Tales, which as far as outsiders are able to say, contain an interesting mix of real history and myth interwoven together in beautiful poems. Many times Ursar has been asked to recount these rhymes for the benefit of Dawn Alliance explorers. And Dawn Alliance researchers have found much to like in the Windbreaker concept of the world itself being "a living being".
Chapter 3
Ursar first encountered explorers from above in their hour of need. Dawn Alliance adventurers had foolishly wandered into a toxic underground cave system covered in hallucinogenic fungal spores. Only Ursar's antidotes saved the explorers from being utterly lost. Bahiti and Ursar struck up a fast friendship that day. Windbreaker explorer Xura had already left for the surface world long before, giving Bahiti some acquaintance with Ursar's ancient dialect. Ursar was very pleased to hear of Xura glad tidings, and the two exchanged much knowledge of the under- and over-world.
Chapter 4
Ursar also shared a warning with the Dawn Alliance to stay clear of the more recent undergrounders: Thaleira and its ruler, Vulcanus. About the only good thing Ursar could say about Thaleira is they shared a reverence for the holy artifacts scattered throughout the caves. The war between Ursar's people and Vulcanus would probably be going on still were it not for the invasion of an even worse group of surface-dwellers: Phaethon. Tramplers of all that is holy, Phaethon has invaded like a swarm of locusts followed by countless bandits. The arrival of Phaethon has forced an uneasy truce between Windbreakers and the newcomers of Thaleira. Traditional warriors met the innovations of Thaleiran craftsmanship to great effect as the two sides reluctantly allied. The establishment of a Dawn Alliance outpost has also thrown new weight against Phaethon. Their greatest victory so far is winning a certain degree of freedom from fear of Phaethon.

Story

Chapter 1
A Forest Guardian of Tair, Aisling comes from a traditional tribe steeped in respect for nature and the art of combat. One of the Forest Guardian's strongest ranged defenders, Aisling's skill with the sling is legendary. A weapon useless in most hands can exact deadly blows against distant poachers in hers. Like all good Forest Guardians, Aisling knows every nook and cranny of these woodlands, including all the best ambush spots. Most foreigners who come into contact with Aisling know her more for her extraordinary singing and instrumental skills, her songs during common festivals, or forest-fairy dances. Even the animals seem enchanted by Aisling's voice. Many animals will gather around Aisling's performances, entranced as much as any human listener.
Chapter 2
Aisling's bond with the animal world goes far beyond any typical Forest Guardian, forged in a near-tragedy. Tair legend tells of mischievous forest spirits who lead children away on lost trails from which they will never return. It is said that these children are selected for the spirit realm, but Aisling's parents refused to be comforted by this when it happened to them. For seven days and seven nights Aisling's parents encamped from forest nook to woodland corner seeking their lost baby. They finally found little Aisling inside a warm cavern surrounded by a cluster of woodland critters, sleeping soundly through the night. Since that day Aisling has displayed an extraordinary ability to understand forest-kin. Aisling sings these stories and more to her audience at many cross-tribal gatherings. But Aisling's listeners must decide the truth of it for themselves. Some say it is not beyond reason because, after all, another famous girl on the Tundra keeps a polar bear as a companion.
Chapter 3
Aisling's reputation for song and string rivals even Lynn the "bard of a thousand songs". Lynn and Aisling rejected many invitations to perform together in musical contest until chance brought them together by accident in a sleepy woodland tavern. Witnesses still tell stories of that grand meeting of musical minds. Lynn's skill in the string was shown in force that night, her music a passionate fire upon the stage. Aisling's gentle melody spoke of calm soulfulness. Two competing styles so utterly different that popular opinion could not come to a verdict. But one meaningful consequence of this music (apart from the joy of listeners) was a powerful friendship forged between Aisling and Lynn.
Chapter 4
As a Forest Guardian Aisling's sacred mission is to protect that which matters most: the holy grove. Even if withered today, scholars believe the trees that lie within Tair's sacred grove are the same species as the Tree of Life on Daybreak Island. One day perhaps the same vitality and warmth could give life to Tair's surroundings. The hope of an oasis of warmth in Tair has drawn many Dawn Alliance researchers. It has also enticed invaders and bandits full of greed in equal measure. Forest Guardians have had to pick up sling and spear as never before, and seek out new friends wherever they may be found. Though victorious for the time being, Aisling is well aware that the invaders will not stop. So the Forest Guardians have reluctantly partnered with the Dawn Alliance, which also seeks to unravel the true mysteries of the sacred grove.
